Motorcycle Festival Launch

2014 Adelaide blackhorse Festival smallRight To Ride’s Trevor Baird attended the official launch of the Adelaide – Blackhorse Motorcycle Festival at the Ramanda Hotel Belfast  this morning.

Not one to turn down an early morning breakfast Trevor munched his way though the launch, as we were welcomed by organiser Billy Nutt and with special star guests Alastair Seeley, Martin Barr and Michael Rutter.

Billy Nutt ran through the show, which will run on February 7th, 8th and 9th, who will be there, the support the festival continues to attract.

Presentations were given by the invited guests and perhaps of a bit more interest regarding our dealings with motorcycle road safety and support the PSNI Bikesafe rider assessment scheme gave a background presentation with some words about last years motorcycle road fatalities.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland will once again attend the Adelaide Blackhorse Motorcycle Festival to promote the benefits of the Bikesafe road safety programme, which has been and continues to be a resounding success. BikeSafe is a police led motorcycle initiative which is run by most UK Police Services. The principal aim is to prevent and reduce the number of bikers being killed or injured on the roads.

The PSNI believe that riding a motorbike should be fun, but that all motorcyclists have personal responsibility to maintain and improve their skills, knowledge and hazard perception, which will hopefully make riding safer and more enjoyable.

bikesafelogo250BikeSafe is about starting on the right path to skill development as it “Bridges the Gap” between basic and specialist training. We firmly believe and recommend riders continue their training throughout their riding years to ensure they are equipped with the best skills to keep themselves safe, and not just stop once they have passed their bike test.

Having enjoyed a successful BikeSafe workshop or ride out, the PSNI then actively encourage additional post test motorcycle training from either the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) or the Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS).

The BikeSafe Team would like to acknowledge the contribution that festival promoter Billy Nutt, Sam Geddis from Adelaide Insurance, Dave Macey from Blackhorse and all the supportive local motorcycle dealers, whose continued devotion of time, energy and resources play a key role in the ongoing success of BikeSafe.

The stark reality is that during 2013 there was a 150% increase in the number of motorcyclists killed on our roads (4 in 2012, 10 in 2013). We all share the responsibility of doing everything we can to prevent any more families having to face such unnecessary, preventable trauma.

Visit them at the Festival on the BikeSafe stand. We’re proud to say that this initiative and our other road safety programmes were once again awarded a Big Tick by Business in the Community in 2013.

Some models you will already know about while some may come as a surprise. These models will be FJR 1300, MT-09, MT-09 SR, MT-07 ,SR 400 and the recently released 2014 XTZ 1200 ZE. Don’t forget to visit the Yamaha stand where alongside the bikes the BBB Motorcycle Club we will be offering you the chance to win a 2014 Yamaha MT-09.

The BBB Motorcycle Club raised over £20,000 for local charities in 2013 and this year aim to raise thousands for ‘Cash for Kids’ which brings hope, healing and happiness to young people in Northern Ireland. You can make a donation at the festival and at the same time try and win the Yamaha MT-09 by trying to guess the code of a safe which holds the bike’s keys.

Charles Hurst Motorcycles will again have a selection of used bikes on display, with their Price Promise (We won’t be beaten on price). The price promise Charles Hurst give on used bikes has seen their sales rocket in 2013 and they aim to drive it even further during 2014. Charles Hurst will also have a helmet, clothing and accessory stand with some bargains to be had to make way for new stock.

Don’t forget while you are visiting the festival the Charles Hurst store is only two minutes from the King Hall Complex at Boucher Road.

The off-road fraternity will as usual be out in force at the Adelaide Blackhorse Motorcycle Festival. The Motorcycle Racing Association (MRA) were delighted with the response to the new Motocross Village at last year’s festival so there was no hesitation in returning to this year’s event. They will be back with the Motocross Village which will have on display machines representing seven different off-road disciplines which are Adult and Youth Moto Cross, Adult and Youth Quad Cross, Supermoto, Sidecar Cross and Enduro/Cross Country

There will be experienced staff on the stand to help visitors with any aspect of off-road motorcycling.

The North of Ireland Karting Association will be returning to the King’s Hall where they will be launching the 2014 NI Kart racing season. Locally the main focus for the drivers attention will be the NI Championship, which kicks off on 1st March at Kirkistown and concludes at Bishopscourt in September. In between, the drivers will also face the challenge of Nutts Corner and the NW200 Paddock.

Undoubtedly the highlight of the year will be the Superkart UK Cup and British Superkart Championships at Bishopscourt on the 31st May. On their last visit to these shores, in 2012, the Division 1 Superkarts smashed Jonathan Rea’s outright lap record by over 1.5secs and with a grid packed with European, British and Irish champions, that record could be lowered even further.

Last year we were celebrating the success of Charlie Eastwood becoming 2012 Rotax Max World Champion. In 2013 Charlie added the European title and in doing so became the first driver from Northern Ireland to hold both titles at the same time. Following Charlie’s success, the NI Kart Experience was launched at the show last year. The aim of the scheme is to introduce new drivers into karting. Using race prepared machinery, potential newcomers to karting get a taste for the full thrill of karting and hopefully we will find the next generation of champions.
