Right To Ride EU
Right To Ride has split in two, separating European from Northern Ireland issues that affect riders.
Concentrating on legislation from the EU Commission, especially that which threatens to strangle motorcycling.
Follow and join our campaign regarding proposals from Europe to regulate biking.
Campaign – Regulation Not Strangulation
In January 2010 we first reported discussions that were afoot for a new framework regulation for new motorcycles to regulate and simplify regulations, which has become a mire of technical blah blah and wishful thinking.
We defend our rights to be able to modify – customise – maintain our motorcycles without unnecessary legislative restrictions – Regulation Not Strangulation.
While this right still stands the proposal for a new regulation has taken many twists and turns.
Right To Ride Is Supporting
Right To Ride is supporting and promoting the following initiatives and Associations:
We consider these to be a benefit to motorcycling whether concerned with motorcycle and riders safety or the positive promotion of motorcycling and motorcyclists.
Ride It Right – A safety initiative that focuses specifically through a partnership of organizations that have the same common goal – to reduce motorcycle casualties especially on “Biker Routes”.
Bikesafe Northern Ireland – The perfect introduction to skills on Hazard Awareness – Defensive Riding Technique – Junction Awareness – Cornering – Overtaking.
NABD – National Association of Bikers with a Disability - Right To Ride supports NABD (The National Association of Bikers with a Disability) an organisation that directly helps disabled people to enjoy the freedom and independence of motorcycling.
Northern Ireland is a Region within NABD and the Northern Ireland Rep is JoJo Marshall.
First Aid For Riders – We think that a First Aid Course for motorcyclists will be beneficial not just for riders but also for other road crash casualties, even if not directly involved in rendering First Aid, but to be able to comfort/reassure conscious casualties and to help in giving confidence to stay calm at a crash scene.
Crash Cards For NI – A new motorcycle safety initiative, the Motorbike Crash Cards for Northern Ireland (MCCNI) which aims to introduce a CRASH Card scheme to Northern Ireland. Making Northern Ireland’s bikers safer, reducing road fatalities of riders and pillions alike
The Joey Dunlop Foundation – Provides disabled accessible accommodation for disabled visitors, especially children, who wish to visit the Isle of Man.
We are also promoting:
Approved Motorcycle Instructors Association (N.I.)
BikersRVoters 2011
Elections for the Northern Ireland Assembly and Councils took place on Thursday 5th May 2011.
Our focus was on Road Safety – other vehicle drivers – the Roads Infrastructure (which should not make roads a dangerous place for motorcyclists) – the influence from EU legislation and the European Commission.
Our main message was and still is that the motorcycle community in general is looking after itself and is involved, aware and are taking responsibility for its own safety.
The next elections due are the European Parliamentary elections which are expected to be held in 2014.
