Conference Call

During the months of September and October Right To Ride will be travelling from our base in Northern Ireland to attend motorcycle conferences in Germany.

In April 2012 Right To Ride’s Elaine Hardy published the “Northern Ireland Motorcycle Fatality Report 2012″ which is an in-depth study of 39 cases relating to 41 motorcycle fatalities in Northern Ireland (UK) between 2004 and 2010.

Elaine has been invited to present her findings in Hannover, Germany at the ESAR International Conference “Expert Symposium on Accident Research” on the 7th September and at the International Motorcycle Safety Conference (ifz) in Cologne, Germany on October 1st.

This follows a presentation of the study at Stormont’s Parliament Buildings in Northern Ireland, hosted by Michelle McIlveen MLA.

The fifth ESAR International Conference is held over two days and brings together representatives from authorities, medical and technical institutions to discuss new research issues and exchange experiences on accident prevention and the complex methodologies of accident reconstruction.

The ifz, International Motorcycle Safety Conference, now in its ninth year, will be held under the headline ‘Safety – Environment – Future’ and covers all aspects related to motorized two wheelers. The conference gathers scientists, researchers and practitioners to provide the opportunity to discuss the complex aspects of active safety work for two wheelers with contributions from specialists from all over the world.

This conference takes place over two days prior to the opening of the 8th INTERMOT Köln 2012 Motorcycle fair and is organised in co-operation with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) from the USA.

Meanwhile the Federation of European Motorcyclists Federation (FEMA) has just announced the draft programme for its one day European Motorcyclists’ Forum. The forum will be held on the 3rd October 2012 on the opening day of INTERMOT and following the ifz conference.

The forum is in collaboration with the European Commission and is hosting the RIDERSCAN and SIM2CO research projects. The forum is billed by FEMA as, “as a platform for discussion on safety, mobility and the future of two-wheel transport in Europe.”

As we will already be in Germany for the ifz conference we will be registering to attend the FEMA forum to sit, watch, listen and ask questions!
