IAM Expands

The “Institute of Advanced Motorists” charity has expanded in Northern Ireland.

To cope with the demand for more advanced rider training in Northern Ireland, the charity – Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has joined forces with a number of local interested parties i.e. BikeSafe, Phillip McCallen Motorcycles, the Quay Vipers Motorcycle Club and Adelaide Insurance Services to form a new IAM Group.

This demand has been partly fuelled by BikeSafe (www.bikesafe.co.uk) who’ve encouraged many of the bikers that complete the free BikeSafe assessment to go on and complete the IAM Advanced Riding test ( www.iam.org.uk) This together with a greater public awareness of the IAM’s Advanced Riding test has generated this interest.

This new group, the “Adelaide Advanced Motorcyclists” was officially formed on 9 September, at Adelaide’s offices in Belfast and the IAM’s Group Support Manager, Dave Shenton was present to sanction the Group, adding another Group to the over 200 volunteer IAM Groups across the UK.

What happens next?

Although the “Adelaide Advanced Motorcyclists” are officially launching at the “Adelaide Motorcycle Festival” at the Kings Hall, Belfast in February 2011 they’d like to start the ball rolling by encouraging interested bikers to register their interest now in taking the IAM’s Advanced Riding Test in late Spring 2011 by emailing the Group’s secretary: lewis.murray@adelaideinsurance.com or contacting him on 028 9032 6018.

If they prefer to rather get involved in rider training & testing (Observing & Examining) to also make contact with Lewis Murray.

The Group President is Phillip McCallen from Phillip McCallen Motorcycles, with Gary McComb as Chairperson. Treasurer is Michael Montgomery from the Quay Vipers and the balance of the committee members are from Adelaide Insurance Services.

“Adelaide Insurance Services already sponsors each employee, with a full motorcycle and/or car licence, who must take the IAM Advanced Car and/or Motorcycle Test, so it made perfect sense to galvanise these advanced riders and drivers to join this group.”

“Adelaide Insurance, Northern Ireland’s leading motorcycle insurance provider has been promoting road safety to our customers for many years and in forming this group will be now able to deliver the IAM Advanced Riding programme to our customers and motorcyclists in general through Observers & Examiners created within the group.” Sam Geddis, Director Adelaide Insurance Services.
