Your MP and EDM

23rd June 2010

Northern Ireland MP Sammy Wilson is at it again, promoting the positive aspects of motorcycling in the UK Parliament.

Sammy who is also a member of the Associate Parliamentary Group for Motorcycling has submitted an Early Day Motion (EDM) to the House of Commons stating:

“That this House notes the positive impact that motorcycling can have both as an alternative to the private car and as a way of reducing congestion in towns and cities; is concerned that these benefits and the views of motorcyclists are often overlooked in the development of transport policy; and calls on the Government to give greater attention to these issues during the course of this Parliament.”

EDMs are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. Although very few EDMs are actually debated, they are used to publicise the views of individual MPs and they draw attention to specific events or campaigns. Sammy Wilson’s EDM is inviting MPs to show the extent of parliamentary support and to give greater consideration and attention by government to motorcycling.

The EDM was submitted on the 14th June and to date 14 MPs have put their signature to the motion, including Northern Ireland MPs Jeffrey Donaldson and David Simpson.

Right To Ride’s, Trevor Baird, says, “Three Cheers for Sammy Wilson, who has always demonstrated his support for motorcycling and continues to promote the advantages that motorcycles offer as part of the transport mix. Sammy has shown his willingness to have an open dialogue with riders and be a champion of our right to ride.”
