Purple Princesses Ride Again

maidnornlogo-250On the 22nd and 23rd of August 2015 a group of up to 100 lady bikers and a few blokes are taking to the roads of Northern Ireland and completing a 300 mile motorcycle ride across the province.

Beginning in Stormont on the Saturday morning, leaving at 10am, the ladies all dressed in Purple are taking part in a 2 day motorcycle ride for Charity.

These ladies have come together to promote lady bikers and the biker community but also to raise awareness of Cancer.

In partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support the ladies have all raised a minimum of £100 sponsorship to take part in this ride, Maid’en Norn Iron.

Maid’en Norn Iron is a group of lady biker volunteers who over the past two years have raised over £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through their collection days and sponsorship.

This year we hope to have similar success and break the £50,000 barrier.

Since January 2015 the ladies have been registering to take part in the run and have been gathering up their sponsorship.

maid1The run starts in Stormont and takes in Newtownards, Portaferry, Strangford, Newcastle, Kilkeel, Portadown, Omagh and London/Derry on the first day.

On the second day the run leaves the Everglades Hotel in London/Derry at 10am and heads to Portstewart where we do a commemoration for those who have lost loved ones to cancer, those who are fighting cancer and those who have yet to face cancer.

We then head to Carnlough, Carrickfergus and finish at Belfast City hall at about 4pm where we have a finale event and will be greeted by friends and family.

This run is a very special event in the biking calendar and is totally different to any other Charity Motorcycle run that is co-ordinated in Northern Ireland.

The run is very structured and is about supporting one another along the way as it’s not an easy journey for many of the participants.

Many of our participants, ladies and gents have been touched by cancer in some shape or form, from having lost a breast to cancer, lost family members to cancer to currently fighting cancer.

We try to put special touches in the run too, in order to do this we all dress in purple and the riders all bling up their bikes to make them visible to anyone passing by.

For more information on the run please check out our Facebook page www.facebook.com/maid’ennorniron our Twitter account @MaidEnNornIron and if you are interested in the run please get in touch via each of the above methods.
