Project Velocity Update
What has been going on at Project Velocity since our last report?
Apart from the object to set a world land speed record the projects other objectives are to:
Encourage young people to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) subjects
Encourage people with learning difficulties to pursue their education & go on to further education
Inspire young people to follow their dreams
The built so far has seen the completion of the design of the bike and has used powerful computer simulation programs available to them through Queen’s University Belfast, this gives an ability to verify the vehicle’s capability of breaking this record.
However, the project urgently needs additional financial support to progress from design and simulation to construction.
The team are building the bike themselves but need sponsorship and support in order to do so.
This could be in the form of not only financial assistance but by way of materials including particular specialised parts that they cannot manufacture themselves. They would love to do this with the engineering companies within Northern Ireland.
Support Media Coverage
Currently the project has the support of former Northern Ireland motorbike racer, Philip McCallen.
They have secured an undertaking from a high-profile UK television car programme to feature the record breaking attempt and promote it once the bike is built.
The BBC is also currently filming a documentary about Project Velocity that will be shown as two programmes.
To date the project has featured on UTV, The Magazine and BBC Sport as well as a number of Social Media Websites and Motorcycle Magazines including the Belfast Telegraph and a local newspaper in New Zealand.
The team will also have a stand at the Adelaide Motorcycle Festival at the Kings Hall in February 2015.
Sponsorship
If you think this is an opportunity to be part of the project and make this all happen then in return you will be part of the best of Northern Ireland’s engineering talent and skills on a global scale;
- supporting education in Northern Ireland through university students who will be the engineers of tomorrow
- inspiring young people including those with learning difficulties to pursue further education and ultimately inspire them to follow their dreams.
Contact Project Velocity (details below) for the event or for further details, in the meanwhile we are waiting for the Project Velocity Custom Apparel T-shirts and look forward to the show at the Kings Hall to view the project and see those who have stepped forward to sponsor the team.
