Police bikesafe with delivery of high performance Ducati – Ulster Grand Prix

bikesafeducatiThe Police have taken delivery of a fully liveried, Ducati Panigale high performance motorbike, to be used during the Ulster Grand Prix this week.

Regarded as the Ferrari of the bike world, the Italian made machine will be used by Police officers to highlight the road safety message to bikers attending the road racing event.

Speaking ahead of the event, Bikesafe coordinator Constable Bill Holden (pictured) explained, “Already this year, five motorcyclists have died following road traffic collisions. That’s three more than this time last year.

The sad reality is that these deaths are preventable, so that’s why we are once again encouraging the spectators travelling to the Ulster Grand Prix, to keep the racing in it’s place – and leave it to the professionals on closed circuits.

We are also appealing to the thousands of Bikers across Northern Ireland to attend one of our free BikeSafe events,” he said.

At each Bikesafe roadshow event, motorcyclists can avail of free assessed ride-outs, during which, Police advanced motorcyclists will assess Bikers skills and then offer professional advice on how to improve their riding abilities and get even more enjoyment out of their bikes.

In addition, Adelaide Insurance Services offers a 10% discount to all participants who successfully complete the BikeSafe assessment.

“BikeSafe offers an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of motorcycle safety,” said Constable Holden. “Northern Ireland has a big biking culture, which is growing each year. Thousands of people regularly enjoy the thrill and freedom that a motorbike, scooter or moped offers.”

“Our award winning campaign is aimed at all bikers ranging from the novice to the experienced cyclist. Our advanced motorcyclists give advice on the proper maintenance and handling of machines and in addition, raise safety awareness by allowing motorcyclists to draw on the experience of experts. The message is simple: ride safe – arrive safe,” Constable Holden concluded.
