Kings Hall Heats Up

alexlowesadelaidefestival2013-250Honda hot-shot Alex Lowes from Lincoln will make his first appearance at the Adelaide Motorcycle Festival which begins a three-day run at the New King’s Hall Pavilion on February 8.

Lowes will be at Festival on Saturday and Sunday , became one of the biggest talking points last year following his strong end-of-season charge when he not only made the British Championship Superbike Showdown, but he also win both races at Silverstone, beating his one-time hero Shane Byrne with a stunning last corner pass in one of the races.

He ended-up fourth in the premier British series.

Lowes’ plan was to stick with Team WFR Honda for another season, but the team dramatically capitulated several weeks ago, leaving him high and dry.

Luckily, Lowes already had some support for Honda in place for 2013 and, when WFR folded, he was snapped up by the Samsung Honda team.

“It’s obviously a great opportunity for me to join Samsung Honda for 2013 and I’m ready to give it everything,” said 22-year-old Lowes.

He added, “I had a great season on the Honda last year and my priority was always to stay with them for 2013. I think my style suits the Fireblade and I feel comfortable pushing it.”

adelaidefestival2013small“I think I surprised a lot of people last year, but I knew that we were capable and it wasn’t more than I expected.”

“The Samsung Honda team have a lot of experience and obviously we want to win the championship.”

“They are a strong team and I think we are in a really good position to try and win that back.”

“This is my best chance – now that I’ve had a couple of seasons and learnt the Honda, I just need to come out and be consistent right from the start of the season.”

“I want to pick up where I left off last year, and then we should be in a good position for the end of the season Showdown.

“I am still young, so I feel that this is the next way for me to progress and I want to be winning more races next season as I definitely think I am in a position now to be going for the title.”

Soon Lowes is due to go testing but before that he’s looking forward to the Belfast biking festival.

“Given the enthusiasm for the sport in Ireland I’m looking forward to this trip,” said Lowes. “This will be a great opportunity to meet with some of my fans.”

Hotting up!

William Dunlop will fly the flag for the Milwaukee Yamaha squad.

William’s brother Michael is also bound for the Show. Michael recently secured a coveted place with the Honda Legends team for the three international road races.

Road Safety has always been given a high profile at the King’s Hall and next month is no exception with emphasis on the Get On scheme.

Many agree that it’s not as easy as it once was to try out a motorcycle or scooter so it’s important that non-riders are given every chance to try something that may bring them the happiness it’s brought so many of us.

How many of you have taken a pillion for a first ever ride and seen that expression of joy on their face – and the enthusiasm to be behind the handlebars and not just behind you?

Well, there is a way.

Get On

Click For - Get On websiteGet On is a motorcycle industry-funded campaign which gives non-riders a completely free riding experience in a safe, off road environment and with no pressure to buy.

Those interested can book a free ride at the web site www.geton.co.uk and there are over 100 centres around the UK where people can try it out.

Get On aims to convert as many non-riders as possible to life on two wheels and as they say, “It’s completely free and there’s no catch.”
