Ancestors MCC Toy Run

Sunday 11th December saw the 20th annual Ancestors MCC Annual Toy Run for the Children’s Unit in the Ulster Hospital, head from Ballygowan in damp and cold conditions.

Braving the weather in this year’s run were approximately 300 riders on motorcycles, scooters, mopeds and trikes. These were adorned with cuddly toys, tinsel and antlers and riders dressed up for the occasion in a range of Santa suits, a Snowman and a Tiger, we think.

The 34 mile run was marshalled by the club, with an escort from the PSNI motorcyclists. It took its usual route from Ballygowan through Saintfield, stopping at Sprucefield before heading to Custom House Square in Belfast. This was the final stop before finishing up at the Ulster Hospital at Dundonald.

The usual warming cup of soup and a great spread of food laid on by the staff was waiting at the Hospital for the participants in the ride.

The club would like to thank everyone  for a great day on the toy run.  Nearly £1800 was raised, along with a stack of toys and over 30 gift vouchers.

The Ancestors, Joseph ‘Cookie’ Coogan added, “I would like to thank every one who took the time to come and take part in the toy run today and to the PSNI, Belfast Lord Mayor, the Star Wars Storm Troopers, the bikers of Northern Ireland and not forgetting the members of the Ancestors, it makes me proud to be their President.

Wishing you all a very Merry (and safe) Christmas and Happy New Year!”

Thank you Ancestors MCC for all the hard work behind the scenes and on the day!
