At The Festival

r1-psni-250The PSNI Bikesafe will be at this years Adelaide Black Horse Motorcycle Festival at the Kings Hall, Belfast from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th February.

Road Policing officers will be there to offer advice and encouragement to riders to consider progressing their riding skills.

With a free Biksafe assessment what you get is a ride out with a police motorcyclist,  who will follow you to assess your riding, some advice on your riding, you get to follow a police motorcyclists to see how they ride and a discussion on riding and enjoying your bike!

Biker NI Safety (CRASH) Card

Also on the Bikesafe stand you will be able to pick up the Biker NI Safety (CRASH) Card.

crashcard-250The CRASH card consists of the provision of a free card, which is place inside your helmet as a medical alert, details which you fill in on the card provides vital information for attending ambulance crews or emergency responders if you are injured in a road traffic collision or unable to talk coherently because of concussion or having been knocked out.

To let those attending know about this vital information a sticker is provided which is placed on the outside of the helmet, on the right hand side, indicating that a rider or pillion is carrying a safety card inside the lining of their helmet.

Globally 1.25 million CRASH cards have been used by riders!

B.I.K.E.R.S Training Ireland

Also on the Bikesafe stand will be the folks from B.I.K.E.R.S Training Ireland who deliver the First Bike on Scene (FBoS) – Emergency Response Skills (ERS) Course in close partnership with the Police Service of Northern Ireland Bikesafe Team and MAG Ireland – The Irish Motorcyclists Association.

fbos-logoThe course contents include safe approach and management of an accident scene, mechanism of injury, first aid and cpr, protocols for head and neck (c-spine) injuries, log roll, safe helmet removal and snatch rescue in specific situations.

It is their hope to take away the fear from approaching and dealing with an accident scene, while potentially making a huge difference to the injured person.

IAM

Finally on the Bikesafe stand the IAM will be in attendance promoting the IAM Advanced Riding test which focuses mainly to help make riders safer and more responsible on our roads.

Emphasis is on progressive riding and staying one step ahead of other road users by knowing how to predict hazards and accurately assess road and traffic conditions.

Once a rider passes the IAM Advanced Riding Test, they will be a more controlled, confident, and ultimately, a better rider.

Project Velocity

Project Velocity is aiming is to design a full fairing motorcycle to take to the Bonneville Salt Flats in August 2015 in order to set a new land speed record in the 1000cc Streamline Class S-F last set in 1967 by Burt Munro.

They are a group of final year Masters students studying Mechanical Engineering at Queens University and apart from wanting to break a record, build and ride a motorcycle really fast they also aim to:

  • Encourage young people to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) subjects.
  • Encourage people with learning difficulties to pursue their education & go on to further education.
  • Inspire young people to follow their dreams.
  • Showcase Northern Ireland as a centre of excellence for engineering.
